THE GAME AUDIO FAQ
Got questions about how to break into the industry? This FAQ is a comprehensive guide based on advice from various Audio Directors, Instructors, Sound Supervisors and Sound Designers.
PORTFOLIO GUIDANCE
Kevin Regamey is the Game Audio portfolio guru and has a goldmine of videos on his Twitch channel where he shares honest feedback with folks trying to break into the industry - including myself a few years back!
This example is largely based on Kevin's wisdom and is the actual portfolio I used to get hired. It's focused on presenting relevant high-impact content that's easily accessible to stand out as a candidate.
GAME AUDIO INSTITUTE
Need to jumpstart your Game Audio career? The GAI program eliminates the fluff of traditional schools and even includes 1-on-1 Mentorship with industry veterans. As a GAI alumnus myself, I highly recommend this to folks needing a boot camp.
UE5 + WWISE MODULES
How to effectively use industry-standard tools (REAPER, Unreal Engine 5, and Wwise) is very seldom taught in school programs but highly sought after. Successful candidate portfolios have a combination of high-quality Sound Redesigns, AND Audio Implementation demos that explain your process of designing, implementing, and tweaking assets to sound awesome in-game.
The best way I've found to do this is to 'kitbash' a free sample game level and replace all the audio assets with your own while documenting your workflow. Each module has an easy-to-follow tutorial that will bring you through the entire process and requires no prior experience. During each coaching session I provide iterative feedback so that you'll have a polished video for your portfolio site you can be proud of that will also put you at the top of the candidate pool.
Links below are only to download the free sample levels.
Tutorial access is granted to current coaching clients.
